I’m writing this on a Sunday, which means NY Times Sunday Styles equivocations: amateur lesbian webisode series Girl/Girl Scene is a product of Twitter’s hyper-active efforts to commodify one’s everyday surroundings into status symbols. Scene does everything the typical lifestyle drama show does: characters brunch, name-drop local bands, and attend boozy parties. Except, unlike the Showtime the lesbian soap-opera it so clearly admires, The L-Word, the show is shot in Kentucky and the suburbs of Illinois. “All the indie lesbians”, are Sunday strip-mall lay-abouts who eat at the same “Doodles” restaurant. Girl/Girl Scene depicts a labyrinthine Middle American of condos and highway dive bars where the Motel 6 room is a lesbian coven.
